The track to Geles, at the foot of Montcorbison, is full of pleasant surprises for the visitor. First of all, it offers impressive views over Vielha, the Pòrt de Vielha and the Garonne valley towards France, because it continuously changes direction, providing sweeping perspectives over the whole valley. The first section of the route crosses an impressive forest of red pines and beeches, and further on, a forest of firs and other species including juniper and sloes. For wild mushroom enthusiasts, this is a great route for the autumn, when a huge variety of species can be collected.
It is a level route ideal for a family day out with children, either on foot or on bikes.
The return journey can be made via the Bassa d’Oles, and keen hikers can even take in the summit of Montcorbison.
Interesting facts:
There is a picnic area at the end of the route, with tables and barbecues. From here you can enjoy the stunning views, and it’s highly likely that you will hear – and perhaps even see – the entertaining marmots that live on the nearby slopes.
